Moon Wood is a special type of harvesting timber during the cold winter months, specifically from the waning moon phase up to the new moon. During this period, trees are in sap rest, with water tightly bound within their cells rather than freely available in pores and cavities. This results in wood that dries with minimal shrinkage and swelling, reducing cracks and warping. Additionally, moon wood contains less sugar during the waning moon phase, making it naturally more resistant to fungi, worms, and insects. This inherent protection eliminates the need for conventional, toxic wood preservatives, benefiting both the environment and human health.

This traditional harvesting method was used in building ancient temples and mountain huts, whose durability and resilience are still evident today. For more information, refer to the works of:
